Madiba Bay Rail will add an exciting new transport and tourism dimension to Nelson Mandela Bay. Running through Madiba Bay Leisure Park (MBLP_ and comprising an approximately 30km stretch of line that links up with the existing Apple Express narrow guage railway line, this new service will include both trams and steam trains.
20-seater trams running from as far west as the suburb of Sherwood and from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University will convey shoppers, commuters and students to the Retail and Leisure Hub in the Northern Node of MBLP.
Tourists will be able to take a nostalgic steam safari through MBLP, skirting the Big Cats Precinct and traversing the Agricultural Precinct with its myriad of boutique industries, en route to the Retail and Leisure Hub. Along the route they will enjoy distant views of the sea. There will be about 6 stops along the route.
