BANK OPENING HOURS
Most banks are open from Monday-Friday 09h00-15h30 and on Saturdays from 09h00-11h00.  All banks are closed on Sundays and public holidays.

ATMs
South Africa was the first country in the world to introduce ATMs (Automated Teller Machines/Autobanks) and these are found in most towns and cities and operate 24 hours a day.  Conveniently located just about everywhere these ATMs accept most bank cards and are Visa friendly.  If you want to check availability visit the following website: visa.via.infonow.net for more information.

Credit and charge cards are widely accepted, including American Express, Bank of America, Diners, MasterCard, Standard Bank Card and Visa. Some ATMs give cash advances. ATMs in South Africa are abundant and very reliable and perfectly safe and money can be drawn from the machines or directly from the banks at any stage.

ATMs have a set daily limit for cash withdrawals. A 24-hour emergency telephone number is displayed at all ATMs. Precautions should be taken when using the ATMs. These include, avoiding making cash withdrawals alone or after hours especially at deserted ATMs, and do not accept unsolicited offers of assistance.

TRAVELLERS CHEQUES
These are widely accepted and exchanged. Different commission charges are incurred depending on which bank you use and which travellers cheques you have.  In addition to cashing cheques at banks there are also foreign exchange services in larger shopping centre and central tourist areas, for example The Boardwalk Casino.
